If you've never been to the Park Silly Market, you're definitely missing out.

The Park Silly Market is a giant street festival held every Sunday during the summer on Main Street in downtown Park City, featuring vendors, food, live music, beer and even a fresh farmers market. With different vendors every week, you'll find something new on every visit to the market (and be hard pressed to find the same thing twice, so if you see something you love, snap it up!). You'll find everything from jewelry, clothing and hats to homemade salsa, wooden flower bouquets and doggie treats. Last week, Kumquat and I found a homemade popsicle stand, where we opted to try the strawberry lemonade concoction - little Kumquat was basically asleep, but still managed to hold herself up long enough to help me eat it eat it for me. I'm hoping the stand will be there again this week so we can try another delicious flavor.

And there's still plenty to do when you're finished perusing the vendors' wares: you can enjoy some amazing food and live performances at the lower end of Main Street, or head back up to explore the shops, art galleries and restaurants that will satisfy even the most eclectic of interests (most of which are small and locally owned).

While it's hard for me to pick favorites among all the little nooks and crannies that I love, Dolly's Bookstore (510 Main Street), Olive & Tweed (608 Main Street) and Changing Hands Consignment (580 Main Street) top my must-visit list every time I find myself in downtown PC. Without fail, I always find wonderful treasures to add to my closet, bookshelves, or both. In fact, the comfy denim button up, beautiful striped skirt and gorgeous amber earrings pictured are recent acquisitions from Olive & Tweed, and Kumquat's new favorite book was found on the same day at Dolly's Bookstore (it's "I Love You, Night And Day", if you're wondering).

Plus, it's about ten degrees cooler up here than down in the Salt Lake Valley. I'll take 90 instead of 100 degrees, thanks!

springtime in park city, take 2 starring annie bannanie & mister beans

The "kids" and I spent some time outside this morning, enjoying the gorgeous weather we're having on this glorious Sunday. While The Boy and I aren't huge fans of the inside of this house, the deck and the amazing view (and jungle in our front yard) more than make up for whatever the interior is lacking.

While both are regulars on my Instagram, and Annie has been spotted here on the blog before, this is Beans's first appearance here on Frayed Threads. Mr. Beans (the adorable orange tabby photographed above) came to live with us in October, the day after we found out about Kumquat; a friend of mine found him as a stray in Tooele, and since they couldn't keep him, we took him in. He's the best cat I've ever had (and I've had a lot of cats) and he and Annie get along so well sometimes I have to wonder if he's part dog. They've even worked out a tag team system for hunting mice - he catches them, she eats them. Gross, but I take comfort in knowing that I'll never have to worry about rodents inside my house...

No baby yet - we're officially one day past our due date, despite The Boy's many attempts to coax her out of there (including coercing me into eating a chunk of wasabi, a bag of hot Cheetos and running up and down the stairs with Annie). I keep telling her dad that she's going to be extra awesome, so she needs a little extra time in the oven, but he doesn't seem to be happy with that. The weekend isn't over yet though - any guesses on when little Kumquat will finally decide to show up?

spring in park city & a kumquat update

As a ski town, situated high up in Utah's mountains, Park City has lagged behind the rest of the state in reaching spring's warm weather; it finally seems to have hit, though, and suddenly the world is pretty and green and gorgeous. Plants are starting to bloom and layers are being shed, and Kumquat will be here soon.

Her official due date is today; at our OB appointment on Wednesday, the doc said we were still dilated to between 2.5-3cm. I've been having contractions pretty regularly for the last few weeks now - mildly uncomfortable for the most part, but when The Boy starts talking to his little girl, she gets really excited. He's anxious to meet her, and I can't blame him; obviously, I am too. But the whole thing seems sort of surreal to me - like it's never actually going to happen. I've always been really good at 'visualizing' my life, but those visualizations have never included motherhood, and it's hard to imagine what life is going to look like when she gets here. Sure, I understand much of the technical aspect of parenting (like how to change a diaper), but the concept as a whole is at once terrifying and electrifying.

We went to X-Men: Days of Future Past last night; as soon as the movie started, she started dancing - we both looked at it each, a little bit terrified that'd we'd have to leave before the awesomeoness started. Fortunately, it seems that Kumquat is just as big an X-Men fan as her parents - she very clearly loved it, and by the end, my ribcage felt like it had been split apart. I've never sat so straight for so long in my life (pregnancy is definitely doing a lot of good for my posture). And the movie was pure awesome.

Any guesses on when we'll go into labor? Her dad is hoping for sooner rather than later, while I sort of feel like it's never going to happen. Leave your thoughts in the comments!

living p.c.: lunatic fringe hair salon

I had the pleasure of visiting the adorable Dani at Lunatic Fringe in Park City for a trim and a brush up on my hair color last Thursday; as always, she did a fantastic job. I love my pixie (usually), but my super thick + fast growing hair means a lot of upkeep and cuts, and after a year and a half, Dani is the only stylist I've found that I'm interested in going back to (three times, so far). I love her enough to pre-book my next appointment after each visit (now that's commitment).

Prior to this, my last trip to Lunatic Fringe was in early December; in preparation for the slew of holiday parties The Boy and I were slated to attend, I decided to fork over the cash for a salon quality hair color session. Since the few experiences I've had with salon dye have been expensive and lasted just as long as box color, I usually dye my hair myself - but I'd finally plucked up the courage to add some wild highlights to my dark brunette locks and knew that professional help would be necessary.

The purple came out looking amazing, but unfortunately, only lasted about three weeks (the sad truth of fabulous hair colors). The brunette, however, has stayed nearly as dark as the day we dyed it (almost two months ago now), which allowed us to simply brush a purple glaze over the lightened bits on Thursday. They're a tad bluer than last time, but they look great and after a week, seem to be holding better this time around.

On top of her immense shearing talent, all of my appointments with Dani so far have felt more like hanging out with a friend than a business transaction. She's funny, talkative (but not annoyingly so), absolutely adorable and pretty damn entertaining. Most importantly, though, she's genuine - she remembers personal details from visit to visit, and cares just as much about the way I look when I leave as I do (something you don't often get, regardless of a hair cut's price tag). I haven't been to any of the other Lunatic Fringe stylists, but I've always had a good experience at the salon and if Dani were to leave (please don't!), I would have no qualms about visiting one of their other professionals.

TLDR: Next time you're in the market for a hair cut, style or color, try Lunatic Fringe. If you can't make it to Park City to see Dani, they have two other locations in Salt Lake. new year, new life

2013 was a quiet year here on the blog, but real life was a very different story. I moved out of my parents' house and out of Tooele to an adorable house in Jeremy Ranch, got a snazzy new job as Director of Marketing at an awesome office in downtown Park City and The Boy and I finally worked things out and have been together since last January (coming up on our official one-year here in a few weeks!).

Oh - and in October, we found out we're expecting our first baby. A baby! (Hence the above baby bump photos...)

Saturday will put us at 20 weeks along - officially halfway there. The Boy keeps begging me to "build her faster", and while I'm also pretty anxious to meet her, I feel like time has flown since we found out (we were already 9 weeks along by that point), and I wish it would slow down. Despite all the horror stories, so far pregnancy has been fairly easy (hoping that's a good omen for delivery - keep your fingers crossed for me) and it's especially exciting now that I can feel her move (she tickled my hand on my belly a few minutes ago!). Having a little alien growing inside of me is a crazy, wonderful, intense experience, and I'd like to enjoy it a little longer.

Besides - a newborn means barely sleeping and a lot of time and devotion. I think I want to relish these last few months of relative freedom before little Kumquat arrives.

Yup.... we're calling her Kumquat for now. We haven't settled on a name and we're open to suggestions, though I'm pretty sure she'll be stuck with 'Kumquat' as a nickname indefinitely. I'm due May 24th and it's almost certainly a girl (hooray!).

my baby bump @ 19 weeks, 5 days

I don't really set New Year's Resolutions any more, but this year is a special case. Obviously, a lot is going to change over the next few months - it might be the perfect time to implement some sweeping self-reforms.

As for the blog, it will remain fashion-oriented but will likely have some mommy overtones. I doubt I will ever turn into a 'mommy blogger' - I'm just not that good at the homemaking stuff. That being said - consider this your special invitation to follow along as The Boy and I attempt to raise a daughter - here's hoping she doesn't need too much therapy as an adult.....

A few snaps from last night's FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah. The Boy and I hiked up the side of a very frozen mountain with some friends to watch skiers fly down the track at ridiculous speeds (admittedly, I cheated - I rode the chair lift most of the way up. Someone had to take the 5 year old!).

January was a bit of a crazy month, as one might have noticed by the radio silence held over the blog.
