tangerine tango, cayenne coral & rock bottom purple

Meet my newest skirt, in my new favorite color. Red, purple and black will always be classics for me, but this season I'm adding this neon-coral-orange-watermelon color to the list. Interestingly, I learned from reading my March issue of Glamour over the weekend that Pantone has declared a strikingly similar shade to be 2012's It color - Tangerine Tango (Pantone #17-1463).

I'd also like to introduce you to my new ponytail, pin straight and teased to perfect poufiness. I dig the faintly 50s vibe it gives, but the straight locks instead of ringlets and curls give it a modern edge.

I briefly considered wearing my blazer with this skirt, but quickly changed my mind - my favorite moto jacket was calling my name as my sister and I stepped outside to take photos. As much I love my trench coats, there is just something about a black motorcycle jacket that oozes subtle sex appeal, regardless of what it's paired with.

It was about this time that I regretted not pulling on a heavier jacket though - I've found that warm, gorgeous afternoons like we had today often turn into the coldest evenings, and today was the proof rather than the exception to the rule. It was cold while we were taking these pictures. I couldn't even pose, especially because that toilet seat was freezing.

This is our "bathroom garden". We renovated our bathroom, which included putting in a new toilet and bathtub. My mother refuses to get rid of anything, so my genius older brother decided to turn the old facilities into a quirky garden. I actually kind of dig it, but I'm still glad it's in the backyard, and not visible to the general public. It definitely makes for an interesting setting, but it was so cold without the jacket I couldn't think of what to do - I just wanted her to take the damn picture so I could get my coat out of the tree and run inside!

Before I had the opportunity to do that, though, my darling baby brother came out to take care of our dogs - and decided it would be funny to chase me around, first with the bucket of water, then with snow. I spent several minutes running around our muddy, junk laden backyard in five inch heels with no coat on. If it were any brother but him, I would have been cranky, but he's the baby (and my favorite brother - I can say that here because I know my brothers don't read this blog!).

As much as I am in love with winter and the cold, my backyard is not very pretty when it's dead. It doesn't help that both my parents and our neighbors have tons of junk, trash and broken down cars everywhere. It's a bit depressing really. I love my mom, but her pack rat tendencies cause me seriously anxiety. Granted, I have a lot of stuff, but the vast majority of that stuff are clothes and books. I definitely need to clean out my closet, but that's the difference between us: I am willing to part with some of my stuff, whereas she seems to be completely incapable of doing so.

my bangs are so in need of a trim.

sunglasses, tights: Charlotte Russe; necklace, earrings, moto jacket: Forever 21; button up shirt: Express; skirt: maurice's (similar item here); belt, bangles: Maurice's; wedges: Kardashian Kollection @ Sears (similar item here); nail color: Rock Bottom by Sally Hansen

This photo is mostly here to illustrate my current nail color: Rock Bottom, by Sally Hansen (Hard As Nails #770). While I love the color, the polish itself is definitely not my favorite. It seemed to alternate between too runny and too goopy when I was applying it, and refused to go on evenly without serious convincing. Once it dried, it had bubbles in it and it's already chipping (I only applied it Saturday night) - even the cheap Wet 'N Wild polish is easier to use and lasts longer than this one. I will probably use this color again, because it is pretty bad ass, but I don't think I will buy another polish from this particular line. My favorites are Sally Hansen Insta-Dri and Essie; I picked up a bottle of Insta-Dri in Snappy Sorbet (a creamy orange color) at the same time as this, and I'm planning on using it next week. I'll post pictures when I make the switch!

Day One of being pretty and posting pictures of my awesome outfit: check! Five days to go.
